A word about our name...

Boyd's City Dispatch has actually been in operation since 1843. It started as a private mail delivery service in New York City, issuing its own stamps and delivering mail overnight with a uniformed staff. Boyd’s was The Federal Express of its day!

Boyd’s stamps are prized by stamp collectors and are traded regularly. A letter delivered by the Boyd’s City Dispatch service with a Boyd’s stamp on it is on display at the Museum of the City of New York. There were a number of highly successful private delivery services that thrived in the New York after the Civil War.

The logo with the winged Mercury flying over the newly opened Brooklyn Bridge is from our archives and has been in continual use since the 1880s. (Later editions of the logo had the Statue of Liberty etched in.)

The Postal Statutes of 1878 forbid such private delivery services and Boyd's ended its postal service. However since the 1860's, Boyd's had become one of the first mailing list companies in the America and eventually became one of the largest. For the last fifty years it has been best known for its list of affluent donors.
